Between Worlds: 2025 Review / 2026 Preview

Greetings Fellow Psychonauts!

2025 was one heck of a year for me: a year wrought with hardship, family milestones, but also a mass of creative output. Sometimes chaos is a viable muse.

There were a few days before Christmas when a blanket of fog smothered the KC metro. The picture above is from that time, at my favorite hiking spot. One of the most impactful events that happened to me this past year is that my wife and I became empty nesters.  While on this walk, this image seemed emblematic of the coming year, the pathway ahead obscured. Yet, the tree of life remains forever rooted to the earth and reaching up into the skies, a beacon in the crossroads. For one of the first times in my personal and creative life, I am unsure of what is ahead, but looking forward with a certain kind of renewed faith stirring within me. Amidst the unknown, I feel magic returning.

2025 Review

If you're just joining the Psychonaut bandwagon, I've had a mass of releases this past year. 2023-2024 held very little output, but much of that was made up for as this past year: I released mutliple comics and even a new novel into the world!

• PSI-STRIKE: MIND WAR: The first book in my New Vision Comics Collective - Pulp Paperback Expanded Earth series! PSI-STRIKE is the story of Robert McCloud, a U.S. soldier that acquires strange, psychic powers and battles a vast conspiracy of terrorists trying to eliminate him!

• VISION TALES #1: An anthology superhero comic in the New Vision Comics Collective, a collaboration with writer and friend Aaron Conaway, a project we have aimed to complete since we were kids. This project is a pure joy available for all ages! Also features art by Dusty Dean and Jeremy Bohannon.

• PSYCHOANUT PRESENTS #5: The latest issue of my personal anthology series that is primarily memoir, but also contains other mini comics, stories, and art. This series takes a new turn from the previous issues, as I explore some of the paranormal aspects of my early childhood memories!

• THE SIMON MYTH CHRONICLES: BROKEN CHALICE #5: Simon Myth's journey to uncover the mystery unfolding in the San Luis Valley continues as we delve into the origins of the Chalice itself and how Simon and crew got into the astral mess they're in today! You don't want to miss this seminal issue!

2025 capped off with my first crowdfunding campaign that ended with a massive success! My aim was to use these funds to build up stock and prepare for a new year of public appearances in 2026!

2026 Preview

Every December, I plan out the coming year. And, like the picture of the foggy tree above, I have an idea of where I am going, but the road ahead is not all that clear. One thing is for certain, I will be attending more shows, fairs, and conventions. My crowdfunding campaign enabled me to garner a large stock of books and I want to be able to hand-deliver them to new readers!

In fact, you can already put the first show on your calendar!

That's right, I'll be attending Planet Comic-Con this year! You will be able to find me in Artist Alley and I will not only be selling books, but I will also have numerous new prints available, as well as be taking commissions! As my convention/show list gets ironed out, I will certainly be posting here.

Creatively, I have been trying to narrow down my project list. I have numerous goals in mind but haven't quite prioritized them in any particualr order yet. I have a few commissions I need to complete from my crowdfunder, but then after that my focus will be on producing the following:

• PSYCHONAUT PRESENTS #6: The Wyrd Echoes segment in issue 5 will continue in issue 6 and I already have some ideas sketched out for how it's going to go, but I aim to get the full script and thumbnails done this winter.

• THE SIMON MYTH CHRONICLES: BROKEN CHALICE #6: The story is already fully mapped out, however as one works on a project, things shift. I have some adjustments to make for the script in issue 6 then will be ready to be back at the drawing table!

• THE SIMON MYTH CHRONICLES: PROJECT KADMON: Tied in to issue 5, I am working on a novella that fleshes out the prequel to Broken Chalice. I already have about 20% of it written and just need some time to drive the rest of it home. See cover below!

• THE REACTANTS: CHILDREN OF THE VORTEX: I have been working on my next Pulp Paperback in the New Vision Comics Collective, the first superhero team I ever created as a kid: The Reactants! The book is fully outlined and the first few chapters complete! Again, just need time to dedicate to it! See cover below!

• PSI-STRIKE: THE CHEMICAL CULT: Book 2 of Psi-Strike is in the works, but I've gone back to the drawing board on some parts. Rest assured, Psi-Strike's adventures will continue!

• INVISIBLE HORIZONS: About a year ago I started work on a collection of short stories, poetry, and nonfiction works. It is fully compiled and am just in the process of editing it. I am hoping to have that out sooner rather than later! See cover below!

• BELOW THE LIGHT: A new book idea surfaced in the past year for me. Actually, it is an old idea, as old as when I was about 9 or 10 years old, but it has rekindled a new flame inside of me. The book is fully outlined and, like above, a few chapters already complete. It is a fantasy story completely separate from any of my other projects, yet it has been an absolute joy to work on!

So, as you can see, I have a lot of projects in the works, but not a lot of focus at the moment. Usually the muse shows herself in the first week or two after New Year's Day and leads me down the right road. I have full confidence these projects will get priortized accordingly and my creative work schedule will align. I have no delusions that all of these projects will be complete in the next year, but I am far enough along on a few that I think I should have at least three new works released in 2026.

The Wrap-Up
